College of Arts / University of Basrah
The department was founde . d in 1983 and the studies started in 1984 .
Academic Year
______________
The academic year commences towards the mid of September each year
and is completed by the beginning of the following July .
Each academic year consists of two terms of study . The duration of each
term is approximately 17 weeks, comprising at least 15 weeks of teaching
and assessment and / or examination sessions , there is normally a two
weeks break between first and second term .
The department awards BA degree in library and information science and
the graduates have to complete 4 academic years with other necessary
requirement .
Program Goals
________________
1. The graduate will be competent in both the theoretical and practical
aspects of library and information science .
2. The graduate will have the necessary library skills in the latest
information technologies .
3. The graduate will be able to demonstrate skill and experience in
applied library and information science research .
4. The graduate will understand the roles of library and information
centers in Iraq and Arab countries .
5. The graduate will be able to work in both Arabic and English
libraries and information centers .

يهدف المقرر إلى دراسة المكتبات والمعلومات عبرالاوطان وعبر الثقافات وعبر الزمان ويتناول جوانب
الممارسة والتنظيرفي علم المكتبات والمعلومات المقارن والدولي مع تحليل لمفاهيم هذا العلم و مناهجة و ارتباطاتة الموضوعية مع العلوم الاخرى بهدف التعرف على مدى الاختلاف و التشابة عبر الاوطان والثقافات وعبر الزمن للخروج ببعض القواعد العلمية التي تفيد الطالب والدارس من هذا العلم الوليد كما يعرض هذا المقرر اساسيات المكتبات الدوليه و المقارنه من حيث تعريفها و اهميتها ومناهجها و انواع الدراسات فيها ويتناول نماذج من دراسات فعلية قام بها كتاب اجانب وعرب في موضوعات مختلفة في مجال علم المكتبات والمعلومات بين دولتين او اكثر مثل التعليم المكتبي , الفهرسة , التصنيف , الادارة وغيرها من الموضوعات كما يستعرض المقرر دور المنظمات الدوليه و الاقليمية في تعزيز الدراسات المقارنة سواء المنظمات العربية منها او الاجنبية .
